This is a 2001 publication by Jim Collins which I found fascinating reading.

The book studies 11 American Companies that went from Good to Great over 5 years and concludes that
Any organization can substantially improve its stature and performance, perhaps even become great, if it conscientiously applies the framework outlined in the book.
Very inspiring reading all through, even after 25 years of publication.
A. Type 5 Leadership
Self Effacing, Quiet, Reserved - these leaders are a paradoxical blend of
personal humility and professional will
B. First who …then what
the type 5 leaders got the #rightpeople on the bus and the wrong people off the bus and the right people in the #rightseats and then they figured out where to drive it.
C. Confront the brutal facts
every good to great company embraced the #stockdaleparadox - you must maintain #unwaveringfaith that you can and will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties.
D. The Hedgehog Concept
to go from good to great requires a deep understanding of three circles of hedgehog concept
i. what you are deeply passionate about,
ii. what drives your economic engine and
iii. what you can be the best in the world at
E. A culture of discipline
a culture of discipline is about getting #disciplinedpeople who engage in #disciplinedthought and who then take #disciplinedaction.
The #goodtogreatcompanies are full of people who display #extremediligence and a #stunningintensity.
F. Technology Accelerators
the #goodtogreatcompanies did not begin their transformations with pioneering technology, yet they all became pioneers in the application of technology once they grasped how it fit with their three circles and after they hit breakthrough.
